Kinsale Noctune
This is a nocturne, the play of shadow and light in a dramatic setting. The inspiration is the odd and lovely town of Kinsale, Ireland, whose multicolored buildings in the day are a delight, and by night are surreal. In this painting, I am interested in the tension between “stop”” and go, and also by the compositional possibilities of directional lines in roads, here elevated to a major design element. I have been working on creating more abstraction in my art, and this is the first time I have ever entered a piece in any competition.
