Migration Visitors
On my last trip to the National Wildlife Refuge near my home I saw birds I had never seen before and could not identify. However, I loved their shape and long curved beak and felt the scene was one I wanted to capture in a painting. I learned that the birds are Ibis and migrate to the refuge during the Fall when I checked in my Peterson's Guide to Eastern Shore Birds. The birds were backlit in the scene so all I saw was a deep shadow color. However, when I looked at the pictures in the book, the birds are reddish/brown in color with a blueish/green in the wing area. I decided to hint at those colors where the sun illuminated the birds rather than simply using the dark shadow colors I had seen.
