Glimpses of Hope

Glimpses of Hope
The painting “Glimpses of Hope” captures an interplay between chaos and serenity. In the foreground, I chose to focus on the turbulent waters by blending values of blue and green to depict the dynamic movement and complexity of the sea.
To enhance the sense of depth, the horizon line remains intentionally blurry, inviting the viewer to lose themselves in the vastness of the scene: a transition from the immediate chaos of the water to the distant calm of the horizon. At the heart of the composition, the sun breaks through the clouds, symbolizing hope.
I used hard pastels and an alcohol wash to create an under-painting before layering various colours and values. The edges were blended with my fingertips.
The reference photo was kindly provided by Charlene Ouellette.
