Morning After
Most traditional pastel work is in a loose and immediate form even if it has been scrubbed and re-worked. I have chosen a path to push the medium in a way that lets me record all or nearly all that I observe. I dislike working from photos so I try and observe the fine grain of reality and then create scenes based on those direct observations without having an actual scene to copy. For this piece, I had noticed how much I liked how snow accumulated on logs so during the Autumn I stacked Aspen poles irregularly to capture this and was rewarded with a snowy winter. I took many photos at different points during the winter and used them for ideas to create my own scene.
