Angelic Muse
This piece is based on the story of a fallen angel that I'm currently writing. She fell in love with an artist and became his muse.
I took a long time to create this piece. It started as a small piece, doing a bit of experimentation using gold leafing to make the halo. But I couldn't put enough detail in the face so I redrew it larger and larger, until I got roll of UArt paper which allowed me to finally capture the detail I was going for in the face.
Things started with a charcoal outline using some of my smaller work as a basis. The halo was created next, though I was worried that it would be difficult to keep it clean while applying pastel, I found that the pastel naturally did not grab onto the gold leafing. Applying Panpastel as the base allowed me to create a lot of coverage very quickly. I used Unison and Henri Roche pastels to further refine the forms and strokes, finally using some pastel pencils and charcoal for fine details. For the background, I sprayed on isopropyl alcohol and used a foam brush to create some texture and over effects
