The Soldiers Last Sight

The Soldiers Last Sight, Emerging Pastel Artist
The Soldiers Last Sight
I made this artwork for my BFA portfolio that I am pursuing at University of Alaska Fairbanks. I currently don't have a lot of money as many students, so I primarily use pastels that I have purchased off of amazon called Monte Marte. Im working towards purchasing a Blue Earth set to take my work to the next level. That being said this work is about the story of war and the horror that is on a ding soldiers face. I used a lot of muted colors to make it feel cold and unsettling. My process is quickly establishing an underpainting, composing of a hue shifted gradient that establishes my value areas. I then block in colors I wish to use and then finalize the image with Fiber-Castell pencils if applicable. I do all blending with fingers and sometimes paper towel. I worked in a lot of analogous colors with this work. Some complements but desaturated.
