The Sick

I made this artwork for my BFA portfolio that I am pursuing at University of Alaska Fairbanks. I currently don't have a lot of money as many students, so I primarily use pastels that I have purchased off of amazon called Monte Marte. Im working towards purchasing a Blue Earth set to take my work to the next level. That being said this work is about a fictional character that I have created named the Sick. The Sick is the entity that is associated with addition in humans. This depicts the sick in the form of a dead loved one inside the viewers mind during a near death experience. My process is quickly establishing an underpainting, composing of a hue shifted gradient that establishes my value areas. I then block in colors I wish to use and then finalize the image with Fiber-Castell pencils if applicable. I do all blending with fingers and sometimes paper towel.
