The Soldiers Mind

I made this artwork for my BFA portfolio that I am pursuing at University of Alaska Fairbanks. I currently don't have a lot of money as many students, so I primarily use pastels that I have purchased off of amazon called Monte Marte. Im working towards purchasing a Blue Earth set to take my work to the next level. That being said this work is about a fictional character of an unknown soldier. This depicts the soldiers mind in war and how ripped apart the world inside and out is all around him. My process is quickly establishing an underpainting, composing of a hue shifted gradient that establishes my value areas. I then block in colors I wish to use and then finalize the image with Fiber-Castell pencils if applicable. I do all blending with fingers and sometimes paper towel.
