After The Wildfire
I work in soft pastel, creating landscapes inspired by my many travels around British Columbia in my role as an emergency recovery manager for small communities. In this image I have been
inspired by the changed landscape following a wildfire this past summer that surrounded my small rural community, located in the Purcell Mountains. The changing seasons
offer a unique beauty to the new landscape that is now my home and have me considering local landmarks and wayfinding - now altered as part of a "new familiar" to all who live here.I am also interested in the conflicting feelings that arise from viewing an image of beauty, which caused so much devastation, and how people balance and justify these emotions.
