Titan
The original graphite drawing for this painting was made from my hotel balcony in Gstaad, Switzerland during the week of a classical music festival last September. The sun was just rising and casting an incredible golden glow on a nearby peak. The evening before, we had been treated to a terrific performance of Mahler's Symphony No. 1 and it struck me that this was the perfect illustration of that piece of music. I came home to make a larger charcoal drawing of the mountain and then using several photos taken with my phone, I painted my interpretation of "Titan" in pastel, while listening to a recording of Mahler's symphony. A wonderful experience all around!
