Sandstone Tapestry
Recently I decided to do a few works focusing on the texture and character of canyon walls, and explore the use of more linear mark making than I usually use. My reference photo was one I took at Lower Antelope Canyon (AZ), of the light filtering into the beautiful sandstone slot canyon. What stood out to me most was the curving lines worn into the stone by the elements, as well as the lost and found edges drawing the eye around the scene. I tried to capture a sense of the warm reflected light bouncing off of different stone surfaces, that makes the slot canyon seem to glow.
