Afterglow

This portrait of Simon speaks of his ability to stay still and be present, of the energy he gives off when he stares off in the distance and listens. When I started drawing it, it was supposed to just be a simple sketch, but as I was drawing it, I felt the urge to keep woeking on it until the full shapes and colours emerged. Being of a smaller size, I mostly used pencils for the face, and very soft pastel sticks for the hair, shirt and background, offering a nice contrast between the precision of the portrait and the looseness of the pastel marks around it.
